In 1991, Jan P. Be Baat Doelman, a Netherlands scientist, patented an
electronic method of treating water. His method is proving to be a much
needed alternative to salt based water softeners. It uses a complex
frequency modulated electric field to safely control the precipitation of
calcium carbonate crystals. Treated crystals remain in the water and do
not stick to pipe walls.

| The Science Behind the Process | There has been substantial research done to determine the science
behind the process of electronic water conditioning. Based on the
literature, it appears that the science of electronic water conditioning
may not be fully understood at this time. The key thing is that the
process works! The information that follows is based on the conclusions
reached by scientists working on this technology.

| Accumulated Scale is Dissolved | Scale that has built up over time in pipes is dissolved. The
conversion of free calcium and carbonate ions into calcium carbonate
crystal depletes the calcium carbonate in solution. As the calcium
carbonate depleted water courses through pipes and water heaters, it
slowly dissolves accumulated lime scale. The scaling of pipes, nozzles,
faucets, and water heaters is actually reversed.

Scalewatcher's electronic water
conditioner subjects water to a specially modulated electric field. This
field causes changes in the molecular organization of the calcium and
other scale producing minerals found in domestic water sources. Instead of
the calcium remaining in the water as unattached ions, the electric field
excites the formation of calcium carbonate crystals. These microscopic
crystals are invisible to the naked eye. They are carried through the
water pipes with the water. The crystals are free floating, and do not
attach as scale to pipes and water heaters. The result is that the calcium
is no longer in solution where it can precipitate out as calcite and grow
as scale in water heaters, pipes, and on shower heads and other places.
